The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will have thousands of lights throughout the Garden. This class will teach how to get the best Christmas light pictures. You'll be able to go home and photograph your own Christmas display. A digital camera and tripod are necessary for this class. Signup at the Garden.
This course is not set up for iPhone photography, only digital cameras preferably with interchangeable lenses. A tripod or monopod is necessary. We'll be using long shutter speeds.
Got a new camera for Christmas? Come and learn how to use it in this complete digital photography course. All the different modes of shooting and buttons and dials will be covered.
One of the most important things to learn in photography is how to compose and image. This course will help you learn how to direct the viewer’s eye to what you want them to see in your picture. Elements of composition, subject placement, timing when shooting moving subjects, attractions and distractions will all be discussed.
Macro and Close-up Photography
Learn how to photograph small items that look larger than life! Overcome the challenges of macro photography and learn how to use the equipment you already have as well as more sophisticated Macro equipment to produce spectacular close-up images. Practice your new skills as you stroll through the Garden and capture its beauty. Dress appropriately for outdoor learning and bring your own digital SLR or mirrorless camera and a tripod if you have one. Ages 12+.
This course will provide you with the tools and understanding necessary to control and achieve consistent flash exposures, when trying to determine whether your strobe will be used as a main source of light or whether balanced flash is necessary or fill flash.
You will learn how to use the flash meter to determine exposure, how and when to use Manual flash. We will also cover how to determine when to use flash to eliminate shadows, create shadows and freeze motion, all to produce consistent results. The use of the built-in pop-up flash on the camera and the use of the Better Beamer will also be covered.
Ideally, participants should bring a flash that fits on the hot shoe of the camera and the operator’s manual for that flash. This workshop will consist of both classroom and in-field instruction.
Ages 12+. Instructor: Dave Kelly, Wildlife Photographer & Adobe Certified Instructor and Owner of DEK Photography
